The Two Hour Combo Trail Description
The Breathtaking 2 Hour Combination Trail combines the Flame Azalea, Fern Forest and Scenic Valley trails for a Majestic Ride. The variety of terrain is truly a wonder.
This ride starts at the stables with an elevation of 3800ft. You then ascend to the top of Cullowhee Mountain at 4200ft. You will travel through a hardwood forest, then to a unique white pine forest to emerge into a breathtaking open meadow at the top. You have views of mountains on both sides of the open meadow.
But on your right the views stretch out to 30 miles and the Blue Ridge Parkway. They're simply breathtaking. Also, be on the lookout for wildlife, including hawks soaring above.
Next, you descend into a picturesque valley with a small lake, creeks, streams and open meadows. The valley is at 3400 feet elevation, so its a long way down. Now you will go back up the mountain following bubbling sounds of Rough Run Stream, which is very peaceful as well as beautiful. It's, also, one of the favorite parts of the whole trail system.
Finally, return to the stables through a deep woods cool fern forest. Be on the lookout for deer and wild turkey during your adventure, plus, enjoy listening to the birds sing!
Your two-hour guided tour starts with a 45-minute safety briefing and training at the Arrowmont Stables, located just 10 miles north of Cashiers, NC. Choose from a variety of departure times.
Meet your guide at Arrowmont Stables and Cabins on the northwest end of Lake Glenville about a mile from the lake. It's only a 20-minute drive from Cashiers, NC. At this 200-acre (80-hectare) working horse farm you’ll get acquainted with equine behavior and riding tips during a 45-50 minute safety program via training video and/or live demonstration.
After the demo, snap on your helmet. Then you’re matched with a suitable horse, and try him out in the ring before setting off on your Two Hour Combination Trail, for your majestic trail ride.
Plan at least 3+ hours for your total experience. This includes from start of the Safety Program to end of your Trail Time.
