HORSE THINKING PROCESS TIP #1
Horses don?t know they are big. That?s why we can control them with the bit in their mouth. It?s also why using a round pen for training is a good idea. By keeping him in a confined space, you are able to control his behavior much more. Therefore you can more easily oversee the entire training process with the round pen.
HORSE THINKING PROCESS TIP #2
Horses think like little children and expect you to protect them. Comfort them like you would a small child and they will calm down and look to you for safety. You might even find they start following you around.
HORSE THINKING PROCESS TIP #3
You NEED to know this. Whoever is most stubborn (PERSISTENT) wins. YOU need to be more stubborn (PERSISTENT) than the horse. If you let a horse win a competition, they?ll more difficult to conquer the next time. Just like children.
HORSE THINKING PROCESS TIP #4
Watch a horse?s ears to know what he is thinking.
A. If they are pointed straight up and forward, they are curious about something ahead. They are trying to determine if it something friendly or a foe. B. If they flopped off to each side, they are relaxed.
C. If they are pinned back like a cat, they are telling another horse they have to count of 3 to stop doing what they?re doing.
If the ears are pinned back, you can get them to change their mind by smacking them on the neck and telling them ?no?. If the ears are pointed straight ahead, rub them on the neck to comfort them. Let them know everything is okay, you are with them to keep them safe. They can ?borrow? from your bravery. If the ears are flopped off to the side, if possible, let them stay relaxed.
