Ride on horseback through the Fern Forest Trail, a magical ride into the enchanting woods and lush ferns of the North Carolina mountains. It is about as level a trail as you can get since we are at 4200 feet elevation.
It's perfect for beginners but our experienced riders love the beauty of the cool fern forest also. You'll pass by the cabins of an old youth camp and meander through a variety of woods and vegetation including a dense fern forest.
Listen to the birds sing and keep a lookout for a variety of wildlife, including wild turkeys and deer, before ending your tour back at the stables.
Your 45 to 60-minute guided tour starts with a 45-minute safety briefing and training at the Arrowmont Stables, located just 10 miles north of Cashiers, NC. Choose from a variety of departure times.
Meet your guide at Arrowmont Stables and Cabins on the northwest end of Lake Glenville about a mile from the lake. It's only a 20-minute drive from Cashiers, NC. At this 200-acre (80-hectare) working horse farm you’ll get acquainted with equine behavior and riding tips during a 45-50 minute safety program via training video and/or live demonstration.
After the demo, snap on your helmet. Then you’re matched with a suitable horse, and try him out in the ring before setting off on your Fern Forest Trail, a gentle path that is suitable for all skill levels.
