The High Falls parking area is located on Pine Creek Road just about 6 miles north of Cashiers, NC.
This dramatic water fall shows itself during scheduled water releases for skilled kayakers to navigate the Tuckaseegee River. It's quite a fall in elevation they navigate down to the old Duke Power Plant.
The remainder of the time it has a gentle flow that allows you to hike around the falls. The water comes from Lake Glenville which was completed in October 1941 to create rural electricity for the area. But when the war started the power was diverted to Tennessee to help
with the Manhattan Project.
The trail descends at least 500 feet into the gorge for you to see the bottom of the falls and where the kayakers put into the river.
You can hear the roar of the falls for several miles.
